Before the festival of Eidul Fitr starts, a number of mobile theft and snatching rings have been found active in different areas of Dhaka city. RAB-3 has recovered more than one thousand domestic and foreign mobiles, tabs and laptops from them, arresting more than 50 accused of snatching, stealing and changing IMEI numbers.
RAB-3 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed conveyed the information at a press conference on Tuesday (April 26) at around 12 noon in the capital's Karwan Bazar.

He said that since Monday (April 25) evening, seven RAB-3 expeditionary teams conducted raids in different areas of the capital including Lalbagh, Siddhirganj, Paltan, Gulistan, Baitul Mokarram, Motijheel, Khilgaon, Hatirjheel, Wari and arrested at least 62 members of the smuggling rings.
Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed also said that 30 tabs, 717 touch screen mobiles, 793 button mobiles, 28 laptops (new) and 55,647 Taka in cash were recovered from the accused.

According to the preliminary interrogation, they bought the stolen or snatched mobile phones at a low price, changed the IMEI number of the mobile and sold it at a higher price.
There are at least 20 mobile phone snatching gangs in these areas. The IMEI numbers of stolen and snatched mobiles are changed and sold secretly in front of different markets with the connivance of various syndicates, said the RAB-3 captain.
